Review-Name of the Star

When I first read the premise of this book I was really excited, and when my blogger friend Sarah said she had a review copy and that I could borrow it I was thrilled.  I'm all for books about serial killers because, honestly, I love the idea of a good one.  No that doesn't mean I like when they're at large, but I love watching shows about them.  For some reason I'm facinated with them, books that have to do with crime in general.  I'm also rather fond of the idea of Jack the Ripper so when I heard this book was ABOUT Jack the Ripper I was all for it.  Now that I've finished reading it I'm not really sure how I feel about it.  It wasn't a bad book by any means, it just wasn't amazing.  Maybe it was because I was SO excited about the whole idea of this book that when it finally came down to reading it I found that something was lacking.  The idea was really fresh, it wasn't something that had been re-done hundreds of times in the teen section and although there was some romance it didn't overpower the story, because the story wasn't really ABOUT romance.  I really liked the main character Rory.  She was independant, didn't end up falling in love with a guy and falling all over herself to impress him, and she really did hold her own.  If you're a fan of books with some romance, some thrill, a few near death experiences, and some history then I definetly suggest you check out this book.  I'll be reading the next book in the series just to see what happens (and because there are very few times when I don't continue a series) and will definetly check out her Thirteen Little Blue Envelopes series because I've heard they're really good.

Out now!!!

Review-Shatter Me

Here's another book that people have been talking about recently, saying it's really good, they can't wait to read it, etc.  Believe all of these things because they are all true.  The pitch of this book is "The Hunger Games meets X-Men" and I think that's really what you get.  I will say there are going to be some people that won't love this book.  I'm sure there are going to be some people who hate it because of the way it's written, but in my mind the way it was written only made it better.  It was almost lyrical in a way, kind of like a poem but at the same time a novel as well.  A very unique style of writing that I personally just loved.  Tahereh was descriptive and somehow even made the ugliest things sound enticing.  Just the idea of this book was new and fresh, and the story really doesn't disappoint either.  Juliette is such a great character and I think she's someone that ALL girls can relate to.  No not on every level, because obviously no one has the problem of hurting people with a touch, but I feel that there's so much more to her story then just that.  With Juliette I also saw something deeper, a self loathing and a wanting to be different and normal.  She was SUCH a great character because of her imperfections, and because she refused to give into the immense pressure she was put through, which is more then I can say for some characters.  The romance is so sweet and there are passages in it that take your breath away.  I have no doubt that if you are a fan of books in verse and dystopian novels you will just eat this book up.  And all the twists and turns, it's like a WELL WRITTEN action movie, when they make this movie they better do it justice or I will hurt them all.  I can't WAIT for the next one to come out but in the mean time I will most likely feel the need to re-read this book, which is something I don't say very often.

Impromptu ARC Giveaway

So today when the mail came there were two packages in it.  One was a copy of Sweet Venom that was SUPPOSED to get here YESTERDAY, thank you very much Amazon. The other you ask? It was an ARC of Dearly, Departed that I won from Dark Faerie Tales but I already HAVE a copy that I got from the publisher to review, so now I have 2.  I've yet to read the book but I see no need to have two copies of the same book, so what does one do with it? Well, if you're a blogger you trade it or give it away!  I do sometimes wish that I could say "I'll give you this book for $x." but seeing as that doesn't give the author any money and they're "Not For Sale" that's not going to happen.  Any who, I asked the author, the lovely Lia Habel, if I could make the giveaway international and she said why not, so.  So that means the giveaway is INTERNATIONAL!  YAY!!!  Although depending on where you live (aka international) I might ask you to pay for shipping because shipping can be REALLY EXPENSIVE!  All you have to do is fill out the form.  Since the book comes out on October 18th and you probably want to at least be able to read the ARC early (cause you know, that's what they're for, to read early) the contest will end on September 27th, exactly three weeks before the book is released out into the wild in the US.  The UK version is released on the 29th of September which is a poo, cause you know, Lia LIVES IN THE US, but still. Now, go forth and fill out the form!  See the winner here.

But first, look at the pretty cover!!! Yes, the ARC does have the cover on it, so it's almost like the real thing.

Review-Daughter of Smoke and Bone

This book, THIS BOOK!!!  People have been raving about this book and NOW I see why.  Laini crafts an AMAZING story that's just so...so...there are really no words to describe this book, but I'll try my best.  Let's start with the beginnings of each section, goodness I could read those over and over again, so beautiful.  The characters? Exotic. No really, their names, I think I pronounced almost all of them wrong, but do I care, NO! Although I will be asking Laini how to ACTUALLY pronounce them, then I'll let you guys know.  Karou, oh Karou, she's amazing.  I mean, there are some great female characters out there, but Karou is right up there with Clary from The Mortal Instruments series.  And THE WRITING!? *dies*. Basically what I'm trying to say is that I LOVE this book.  Did you get that, I LOVE it.  It almost seems lyrical in a way, beautiful and harsh at the same time.  Somehow it just hits you right in the middle of the chest and leaves you speechless.  You think you know how it's gonna end? Yeah, no, think again.  Taylor has crafted such a beautiful world it's almost ugly...I SAID ALMOST!  Think The Mortal Instruments meets Hush, Hush meets The Sky is Everywhere and then you'll have a small idea of what this book is going to be like.  Take my word for it this book is DEFINITELY gonna be the next big thing.  Yes, there are going to be a FEW of you who don't like it, and in my head I'll just be going "yup, can't talk to them anymore, they're crazy." (only not really, don't worry, I'll still talk to you even if I think you're nuts) but I'm pretty sure 99% of you who read this book are gonna look like this at the end O.O .  Personally I can't WAIT for the second one, which Laini said she's working on RIGHT NOW because I'm sure it's gonna be EVEN BETTER, if that's even possible.  Now excuse me while I go out and find Laini's other books, because I must read them ASAP because, well, I mean, they're her books, and she wrote THIS BOOK so they MUST be AMAZING too.  Go read this book!  That is all.

Released September 27, 2011

I need more dust spirits for this book, but I only have five so 5/5

*Please excuse my insanely long rant about how amazing this book was but if you go out and buy it and read it, I think you will see why I sound so crazy.  Now go read!

Win Win?

So, I have a proposition for you all, I know how much you all love signed books, I mean, who doesn't love a signed PERSONALIZED copy of a book? I know that I do, although sometimes I think about how much I could maybe sell it for one day so sometimes I just have them sign the book, but that's beside the point.  I know that you all like winning books, and you all like signed books, and  you all like winning signed books, so really this is a win-win for you!  If you want me to get a signed book for you email me at peachandblue2@aol.com but act fast, cause I'll only let one or two people do this per my signing, cause I don't want to kill my arms carrying a ton of books.  Basically the events that I'm going to are as followed, and if you want you can let me know if you want a signed book from the event, but only pick one or two so that other people can participate as well.  The catch, you have to buy your own book if you want to guarantee you get one.  You can physically mail me the book, have it sent to me via a website, or just send me the money (before hand or I guess if you WILL pay me back you can do it afterwards if you can't get it to me by the day of the signing) to buy it from the store the event is going on at, then I'll get it signed and mail it back to you.  If possible maybe you could consider adding an extra $5.00 for shipping, because sometimes that can get pricey. Please note that all the books will go back media mail if you live in the US, or first class (which is the only thing available) for those of you who live internationally. Either way it may take a little while for the books to get back to you. Without further adu the list of upcoming author signings and when I would need the book/money to get to me so I can get it signed for you;
  • Kody Keplinger-September 17th
  • Tera Lynn Childs-September 21st
  • Smart Chicks Kick it Tour-October 2nd (Seattle)
